Government cannot make profits from all Ministries: AG

The government cannot make profits in all Ministries and Departments.

This is Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s comment during the third live face book consultation for the 2018/2019 National Budget.

Sayed-Khaiyum was responding to Davend Ram who claims that there is more emphasis on the expenditure and budget allocations for government department.

Ram also questioned on how government is working on key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve and strength revenue generations for various departments’.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they are not a private company.

He says their objective is to provide services, law and order, create the right and conducive policy framework and environment to encourage investors to invest, businesses to expand and attract foreign investment, and also give ordinary Fijians a leg up to create a level playing field and create opportunities for them.

The Attorney General adds this in turn creates economic growth, jobs sustained livelihoods, prosperity and confidence.

Sayed-Khaiyum reiterates that it does not mean that they cannot bring in private sector discipline and efficiency into Government.
