FRA works closely with WAF to protect water pipes

People traveling along the Suva-Nausori corridor can expect intermittent road closure as the Fiji Roads Authority works on protecting Water Authority of Fiji infrastructure from damaged during road upgrades.

FRA Project engineer Zaina Khan says three major pipes that belong to WAF lie underneath the section of the road at the junction of Nasinu Road and Kings Road.

She says these pipes are very important as they supply water to the mass population in Valelevu through to Toorak and Flagstaff in Suva.

Their main priority in this area is to ensure the pipes are safe during roadwork construction.

“We’ve looked at all the valves along this part of the network that if there was any particular issue with the slope and there’s always a risk that this work is risky and something can happen. We have contingency plan with WAF for any emergency repair that would need to take place if the slope stability is compromised.”

A temporary soil protection method is being used to provide reinforcement where the water pipes lie as heavy earthwork construction and excavation begins in the area.
