Forest wardens undergo training

December 8, 2016 4:48 pm

The first ever Forest Warden training in Fiji is underway in Labasa, with seven individuals chosen from the main forest areas of Vanua Levu.

Conservator of Forests Eliki Senivasa says these forest wardens will help government manage our forests.

“They are the first line of defence. Our offices are centrally located, our office is in Labasa. We will never know what’s happening in Kubulau, but these guys are there on the ground. So, we need to empower them to be our eyes and ears on the ground.”

The Ministry of Forests is still putting together the specific regulation that will oversee the roles and responsibilities of these forest wardens.
