Fijian President to attend Christchurch Remembrance Service

A National Remembrance Service for the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack will be held this morning.

Fijian President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote will be among the hundreds of foreign delegates attending the service at Hagley Park in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Fifty people including three Fijians were killed and another 50 injured in the shootings at two mosques over two weeks ago.

NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, says the event will give New Zealanders and people all around the world a chance to come together as one to honour the victims of the terrorist attack.

“We will also be welcoming delegations from our friends in the Pacific including the President of Fiji, Head of State of Samoa, President of French Polynesia, and the Prime Minister of Cook Islands. At this point 59 countries will be sending diplomatic representatives to this service while representatives of the organization of Islamic Corporation will also attend along with a UN HCR representative.”

The Remembrance Service will be broadcast live on FBC TV from 8.45am.
