Trial date set for man who allegedly burnt his wife

The trial of a Nasinu man charged with the murder of his wife will begin in June next year.

The trial will be held between 25th June and 5th July 2020.

Jekope Rokovuki Naimawi is alleged to have murdered his wife on January 10th this year.

It is alleged that Naimawi murdered his 35-year-old wife in Kalabu, Nasinu.

Naimawi had allegedly assaulted his wife with a white biscuit tin which contained homebrew and he then poured benzene over her and allegedly set her on fire while she was unconscious.

The judge said that this is a domestic violence case and is of public interest.

He stated that for the protection of the community, the accused be remanded and revoked his bail application.

The case will be recalled on 13th March 2020 for a pre-trial conference.
