A court case being witnessed live through a large screen that was set up outside the Suva court house

For the first time in the history of Fiji’s Judiciary system – a court case was witnessed live from outside the court house.

This was possible through a large screen that was set up outside the Suva court house this morning.

People gathered in numbers to see first-hand the proceedings of the petition case filed by SODELPA and the National Federation Party challenging the outcome of the 2018 General Election.

Chief Justice Anthony Gates says due to the limited space in the court room, a screen was set up outside to ensure that the crowd witnessed the court process.

_“Well that’s right normally we want to make sure people can follow proceedings in the court room but I am not sure on how many respondents are there, there might be 26 or so.”_

Gates says this also provided the right to witness justice and at the same time enhanced transparency.
