Alleged burglars remanded in custody

Two men alleged to be involved in an early morning robbery in Suva on Sunday appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

It is alleged that Jope Veremo and Joji Vorosi entered the victim’s home at Beach Road in Suva Point and were ransacking the house when the victim woke up.

19-year-old Veremo was apprehended by his victim during the incident.

The 27-year-old victim found the two in the sitting room and alleges one was wearing his watch.

While the other suspect Vorosi fled the scene, Veremo was overpowered by the 27-year-old-victim who had a black belt in Hapkido.

The victim taped the accused’s hands and legs and alerted the Police.

The second accused Vorosi was arrested later.

The two are charged with aggravated burglary and have been remanded in custody.

In court this afternoon, the pair alleged that they were assaulted by arresting officers.

The Magistrate transferred the matter to the High court saying that it was a serious offense.

The matter will be called before the High court on October 2nd.
