April 26, 2019 1:58 pm

Police are yet to confirm the number of passengers that were inside the vehicle that plunged into the Rewa River on Wednesday morning.

Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says information gathered so far by their traffic officers is that only one person was inside the vehicle.

This is contrary to eyewitness reports of four people in the car when the incident occurred.

Naisoro says this is still to be confirmed as there is yet to be a positive sighting of any vehicle.

Police are currently at the scene and search will only continue once the weather clears.

Naisoro says a careful assessment will be made by Police on whether they will continue with the search this morning considering the low visibility and the strong current at the Rewa River.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Tasleem Ali who lives in Kasavu is believed to be in the car that’s currently underwater.

It’s believed the car was traveling towards Nausori and tried to overtake another vehicle, but the driver apparently lost control, veered off the road and ended up in the river.
