Agro-Marketing Authority of Fiji will not be closed down.

The reassurance was made by Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu in Savusavu last week, following rumours and talks of the closure.

Seruiratu says AMA will remain open and will continue to serve its purpose.

AMA currently buys cassava and taro from farmers in Bua and Cakaudrove.

Seruiratu says the quota for purchasing dalo and cassava is not a lot given the distance travelled for the crops to reach Suva.

He says a freezer will be installed at the AMA Savusavu office this week so the produce can be kept for longer.

AMA’s biggest buy in Vanua Levu at the moment is honey.
