Fiji now has one of the lowest costs for data in the world.

According to Digicel Fiji CEO Mike Grieg, the significant drop in fees from FINTEL effective from next month will make internet even more accessible for ordinary Fijians.

Greig says with Fiji’s continued progress towards the digital era, the fee reduction from $40,000 to $650 for 10 gigabytes from FINTEL’s Southern Cable will make a significant impact on operating costs.

“We’ve seen a proliferation of smartphones, we’ve seen a proliferation of digital applications and so it is important. For Digicel, it just means that we can continue to offer value to customers where we want to.”

The new FINTEL fees come into effect from next week Tuesday, the first of October.

The review of prices was initiated by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission last year.
