The Suva High Court has dismissed objections by Dr Neil Sharma’s lawyers over the admissibility of procurement reports in his ongoing trial, allowing the proceedings to continue.
The Defence had sought to challenge the use of certain documents, but Justice Usaia Ratuvili said issues regarding admissibility are addressed during the trial as evidence is presented, effectively denying the Defence application as premature at this stage.
The trial involves Sharma and two other former senior officials, former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, facing charges of abuse of office, breach of trust, and obstructing the course of justice.
The first witness has already taken the stand as the court continues to hear evidence in this high-profile case.
