As day breaks, the search for a missing student in a small Victorian town has recommenced.

A band of volunteers, police search and rescue, airwing and State Emergency Services will this morning scour Marysville, in the Yarra Valley, for 21-year-old missing man Poshik Sharma.

Mr Sharma is understood to have separated from his friends at the Duck Inn pub while on their way to Mount Buller on Thursday just before 4pm, after an argument.

His friends and family haven’t heard from him since and he has not accessed his bank or social media accounts.

Inspector David Ryan said Mr Sharma had not contacted family or friends, and was concerned for his safety.

“We believe he may have had some sort of mischief while he’s been out walking,” he told 9news yesterday, adding he’d not returned home to Werribee.

“Our concern is he may be in some difficulty in the local terrain. The inclement weather means we need to move fairly quickly to see if we can eliminate the local bushland and turn him up.”

His sister Samta is also in Marysville to join the search and has pleaded for help to find him.

An image taken on the day Mr Sharma went missing shows him wearing a distinctive red scarf and shoes.

The temperature was forecast to drop to a low of 3C overnight in Marysville.
