Suva footballers not happy

May 12, 2012 8:03 pm

Nothing but disappointment has emerged from the Suva football team since the Vodafone Fiji FACT was cancelled on Saturday.

Association president, Mahen Prasad says they will be requesting a few things from the Fiji Football Association executives who will meet on Monday to deliberate on revised FACT dates and confirmed venue.

“For Suva the players especially were very disappointed. Definitely we will put in the request that the games be played at Ratu Cakobau Park at a later stage because we can understand the people of Suva and Nausori have bought tickets and thinking the games would continue but shifting the games to Lautoka will be too costly. Suva fans bought a huge number of tickets to come and watch at Ratu Cakobau Park.”

Suva coach, Gurjit Singh says no-one is to blame for calling the games off, but it would have been better to press on this weekend to complete the tournament.

“The ground conditions did not suit any team. We can’t say it suited the southern teams. Bottom line is that we all have played in similar ground conditions but games continued. We played on a bad ground against Labasa at Subrail Park, the same we did against Savusavu at Ganilau Park. The IDC has experienced bad grounds but we continued to play and completed the tournament despite the conditions.”

Suva has been in fine form in this year’s FACT – they beat defending champions Rewa 1-0 on Thursday night while drew 1-all with Nadi in round one.
