Not the expected start for South Africa sevens coach Neil Powel, but nonetheless he has taken note of some positives from the boys.

The sevens side led by Neil Powel defeated Fiji 12-10 in the 2019 Oktoberfest 7s title and were crowned new champions.

Both teams scored two tries each, however, luck was on South Africa’s side as they were able to kick a successful conversion.

“Great effort from the boys, I think structure-wise and game plan wise, not where we want to be at this stage it’s still early season but I think a lot of character showed out there.”

The 2019 Oktoberfest 7s title slipped out of Fiji’s hands as they experienced defeat at the hands of South Africa.

Fiji went into the final undefeated, however, the Springbok Sevens proved to be their biggest obstacle.

Fiji will now continue preparations for the 2019/2020 Sevens Series which kick starts in Dubai in December.
