With the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team off to a good start in the 2019 Oceania 7s tournament, coach Gareth Baber has his takings from the match.

They defeated Japan SDS 31-0 in their second pool match yesterday, however, this match was a time for reflection for the team.

Japan managed to tighten its defence in the second spell conceding two tries with captain Waisea Nacuqu and Rusiate Matai touching down for Fiji.

Baber says the team could have done better in this match.

“Getting off our line and defence and putting pressure on the opposition by closing space down and actually when the weather is like this that tends to play at your hands as well. So we were good with the ball as well. We were smart when we carried the ball, we were smart when we were offloading as well. And we scored some good tries as well so I think the restarts we need to improve on, our goal kicking but obviously I am expected to see where we need to be.”

Fiji will play New Caledonia and the All Blacks 7s today.
