Golden finish for Yeshnil Karan

Former Tavua College student Yeshnil Karan created history in the Solomon Islands after winning the first track gold medal at the new stadium in Honiara at the Pacific Games yesterday.

He clocked a time of 32:32:30 seconds in the 10,000 meters.

Karan kept up with the pack while Avikash Lal was leading before he pulled away with 20 laps left.

The former secondary schools champion will run again in the 5000 meters, 1500 meters, 3000 meters steeplechase and the half marathon.

Karan says he’s focusing on all his events and will be available for interviews on Saturday after his final race.

Looking at other results, the Fiji Pearls thrashed Solomon Islands 90-25, the women’s football team beat New Caledonia 3-0 in the semifinal, Team Fiji boxing captain Jone Davule was victorious against Nauru while Amini Saratibau knocked out his Solomon Islands opponent in round one.
