Low-key celebration planned for Hong Kong win

FRU Chairman Francis Kean

Fiji Rugby Union Chairman Francis Kean has confirmed that a low key celebration will be done at the Nadi airport to celebrate Fiji’s fifth consecutive win in Hong Kong.

Kean says they don’t want players to be carried away with the win as their main goal is to finish top of the World Series and claim the number one spot for Olympic qualifier.

Despite ongoing discussions between FRU and the Ministry of Youth Sports about a major celebration, Kean says they want to give more time to players and their families.

“For us, winning the series is the bigger goal. It’s not only about winning Hong Kong, it’s about the overall series. I know Hong Kong is like a mecca to many Fiji 7s players and also Fiji 7s supporters. I believe there’s going to be a small celebration but very low-key.”

He says Fiji’s win at the Hong Kong 7s is testament of the team’s hard work in training.
