Late fightback hands Labasa win over Tavua

Labasa staged a late fightback to defeat Tavua 2-1 at the Courts Inter District Championships underway in Nadi.

A Marika Rawasoi goal had given Tavua a 1-0 lead over Labasa before the Babasiga Lions staged a comeback in the second half.

The Rawasoi goal came via a penalty after Labasa goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva committed a foul in the penalty area.

Following the goal, Labasa had its chances to get a positive result, but couldn’t find the breakthrough until late when Dennis Ifunaoa leveled scores before Antonio Tuivuna got the winner.

The result eliminates Tavua from semi-final contention, while Labasa is now on four points and faces Ba tomorrow.

In other matches today, Suva is currently playing Nasinu, Nadi faces Rewa at 6pm while Lautoka will take on Ba at 8pm.
