Flying Fijians stick to basics

August 13, 2015 12:58 am

While the Welsh rugby team had a World Cup build-up in the desert-conditions of Qatar and the French went mountain-climbing, the Vodafone Flying Fijians will stick to the basics of the game.

National coach, John McKee says he is not worried about how other teams are preparing for the World Cup.

The mentor says mastering the team’s game-plan and improving the player’s fitness levels will be high on his to-do list before the tournament.

“There are lots of bells and whistles you can put in a program but at the end of the day, it’s about your rugby and your conditioning and for us, pretty basic training down here. Especially in the next couple of weeks. It’s about hard work and not bells and whistles, so the boys will be really head down and getting stuck into some hard rugby training to develop our game plan.”

The players will undergo a fitness test at the ANZ Stadium this afternoon.
A warm-up match against Canada on September 6th in England is the Flying Fijians only highlight in their preparations before the World Cup opener against the hosts on September 19th.
