October 6, 2017 12:30 am

The Fiji Table Tennis Federation received a major boost of four-hundred and fifty thousand dollars from the Fiji Sports Commission as they preparing to host the ITTF World Table Tennis Cadet Challenge at the end of this month.

While receiving the cheque, Fiji Table Tennis President, Anthony Ho says the assistance will be utilized in hosting the tournament.

“The World Cadet Challenge brings back to Fiji the best under 15 players from the six continents. We have attracted players, officials, coaches and international delegates and that’s an amazing catch we managed to pull to Fiji. ”

Forty-two countries from around the world will compete in the Challenge which will be held from the 22nd to the 29th of this month.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation will provide delayed coverage of the tournament.

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Chief Executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says Table Tennis is as important as any other sports in the country.

“I’m encouraging everyone to get a Walesi box because the picture and sound quality will be so much better and to watch an international tournament like this on Walesi platform is going to be quite amazing and I think its a great event to get behind because it bring people all over the world and promote our country and also inspire a lot of young people in our country to take up a non traditional sport apart from rugby and soccer.”

You can catch the delayed coverage of the match on FBC TV and FBC Plus.

The tournament runs from the 22nd to the 29th of this month.
