Fiji forwards find new footing

September 20, 2015 4:56 am

The Vodafone Flying Fijians are riding on some new confidence in the set-pieces to bolster their 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign.

The forward pack put on a resilient performance to match, and on a few occasions, overpower the English pack yesterday, despite losing the match 35-11.

Fiji won all its seven scrum feeds as well as line-outs throws.

Blindside flanker, Dominiko Waqaniburotu says it was a wonderful feeling after the match to know they had done a good job in the engine room.

“We knew going into the game it was going to be a tough fight in the forwards. I think that was the main issue, going into the game, to try and win the forwards battle and I think we did well today in the scrums and line-outs. We always back ourselves because we have been improving week in, week out. So even though we lost, we have a lot of things that we have improved on.”

Fiji meets Australia at 3:45am next Thursday at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Meanwhile in the next round of games, Samoa meets USA today at 11pm, Wales clash with Uruguay at 1:30am tomorrow and New Zealand face Argentina at 3:45am.

You can watch all matches of the World Cup live on FBC TV and radio commentaries of Fiji’s matches will air on Bula FM and Radio Fiji One.
