Fiji FA sets sights on top NZ clubs

Olympians coach Imdad Ali says the Fiji FA will not be releasing any player to unknown clubs in New Zealand.

This comes after the side lost 1-0 to New Zealand in the OFC Olympic qualifier last weekend with media reports of players securing contracts with certain clubs while there.

Ali says no contract will be signed by any player unless the parent body deems it fit.

“If contracts are sought by overseas clubs for these players it becomes an individual thing. Fiji FA at this point in time will not like to send these players overseas especially New Zealand. The final result was 1-0 and we would want them to secure better clubs like Watakere United or Auckland City and not just any club because these clubs will only take advantage of them and will not cater for them.”

Meanwhile, Ali confirmed the players each received a bonus payout of $1,000 after they reached the final.

Players will now return to their respective district teams to compete in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League games this weekend.
