Coaches meet referees to clarify rules of the 7's game

February 4, 2016 12:25 am

Vodafone Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan says the game is evolving to such an extent that teams are able to bend the rules as far as possible to their advantage.

Earlier this week, the coaches of the 16 teams in the World Series circuit had a talk with referees in Australia ahead of the Sydney 7s this weekend.

Ryan says the focus was ensuring the teams and the officials agree on the interpretation of the laws of the game to avoid any misunderstanding during tournaments.

“I think with everyone we want some clarity at the breakdown, there’s a few things where we’ve edged towards giving a leeway really as far as handling rucks, handling the ball, offside lines being blurred; and coaches, referees and players are equally to blame for pushing this all the time.”

Fiji will face Samoa in the opening match of the Sydney 7s at 12pm on Saturday followed by the clash against France at 3:18pm.

Fiji’s last pool game is against Argentina at 7:21pm.
