Government is working towards the formalization of two informal settlements in Vunivau, Labasa.
This was highlighted by the Infrastructure Minister Parveen Kumar during consultations with residents of Vunivau A and Vunivau B last night.
Kumar says that this follows a request by the residents during one of his visits to the area.
After which the Ministry worked with the TLTB to develop the area and issue all the residence a 99 year lease.
Kumar says in two weeks’ time a team will be in the area conducting a ground survey.
The Minister adds government has paid the premium to the landowners and residents would not have to pay land rent to the iTaukei Land Trust Board until their 99 year leases are finalized.
There are 415 homes at Vunivau A and 358 at Vunivau B.
