Tropical disturbance

The Nadi Weather Office has confirmed that a tropical disturbance is being located between the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and is moving slowly towards Fiji.

According to an information ministry statement, director of Fiji Meteorology Alipate Waqaicelua says the weather band is expected to affect the Fiji Group within 24 to 48 hours.

Waqaicelua says they anticipate that the trough of low pressure, which is moving slowly from north east to north west of the Fiji group to turn into a cyclone.

The public is requested to take heed of these tropical disturbance alerts and to prepare well by taking precautionary measures.

The acting Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development and Disaster Management, Filipe Alivereti was in meetings with Commissioners from the four divisions and has advised them of the impending weather situation.

The NDMO office is on alert and is awaiting further advice from Fiji Meteorological office.
