The total cost of damage done by Tropical Cyclone Gita stands at $1.23million dollars.
National Disaster Management Office Director, Anare Leweniqila says the office is awaiting the decision from cabinet following the completion of the damage assessment.
“As we speak, we have completed the damage assessment report, as announced by the minister in parliament we are submitting the report to cabinet and after the cabinet’s endorsement of the report, then we will proceed will all the recommended rehabilitation activities that has been outlined in the report.”
TC Gita struck the Southern Lau last month and partially damaged twenty-six houses and completely destroyed ten houses in Motokana, Doi, Lovoni, Nukuni and Vatoa.
A total of 288 evacuees were at the 5 evacuation centers when the cyclone hit the Southern Lau group.
