The Sugar Research Institution of Fiji will prepare cane seedlings for the new cane planting program.

This after many farmers who wanted to plant new cane do not have any seedlings.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has requested SRIF to ensure cane seedlings are available from next year.

SRIF acting chief executive, Prem Naidu, says they have already begun research on the new seedling.

The government is providing grants per hector to prepare land and plant cane for the farmers.

The FSC aims for an improved production in the new crushing season.
