Setting the framework for disaster response

Participants at the Pacific Civil-Military Disaster Response Coordination Workshop have been urged to set the direction on how disaster or emergency response should be like in the future.

This was the message by the Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu while officiating at the opening of the workshop in Suva yesterday.

The Minister stated that we need to ensure that we have a proper standard operating procedures that clearly outline the entry points for greater collaboration with the military in any emergency response.

The Minister also told participants that disaster events will continue to get stronger in the region and it is their responsibilities to be able to devise a plan to address such disasters.

The Pacific Civil-Military Disaster Response Coordination Workshop is designed to address disaster issues and simultaneously put in place the building blocks for improving civil-military coordination in the region.
