New Housing Authority Chief Executive Robert Sen says he is committed to providing low-cost housing.

Sen has been appointed with a clear mandate to ensure the Authority is the preferred agency for Fijians who want to own homes.

“We’re going to look at all our policies, procedures and corporate goals. That requires a little bit of change so we will bring that change so that we optimise our business.”

The demand for housing is at an all-time high. Board Chair Nesbitt Hazelman says the Authority itself has struggled to keep up with the amount of applications in the past.

“Quite a number of complaints on what we do and how we do it. With the board, we’ve been trying to put in place systems and policies and processes to ensure that anybody who walks in through those doors in search for a piece of land or a house, gets the same treatment.”

The Housing Authority currently has about six thousand pending applications for low-cost housing.
