Parliament rounds up Heads of 50 in budget estimates

The parliament which resolved into a committee of supply on Tuesday night has gone through all the Heads of 50 in the budget estimates last night.

This is to appropriate a sum of $4.6bn for the ordinary services of the government for the year ending July 31st, 2019.

However, Speaker of the House Dr Jiko Luveni advised the MP’s there have not been any amendments to the estimates which prevents it being moved or made, so there were no debates.

Meanwhile, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum tabled amendment bills before parliament to give effect to the budget address.

The Bills include the public hospitals and dispensary budget amendment bill 2018, the medical and dental practitioner’s budget amendment bill 2018, the nursing budget amendment bill 2018, the workmen’s compensation budget amendment bill and the public health budget amendment bill.

The Minister also tabled the Fiji National university amendment bill and the Fiji teacher’s registration amendment bill 2018.

Parliament will resume at 9:30 this morning.
