Drivers parking on footpaths has become an issues says Fiji Roads Authority.

FRA chief executive Jonathan Moore says most of these drivers include bus drivers but there are some companies who do not have adequate parking space do this.

Moore says by parking on footpaths, the perpetrators are forcing people to work on the road, increasing their chances of being hit by an oncoming vehicle.

“We have written several times to some of the bus companies about parking on footpaths. The weight of a bus is enormous and it damages the footpath. It also causes extra cost to FRA so we write to them and then we take proceedings to pay for the damage.”

Moore says the money used to re-do these footpaths after damage can be used to upgrade the infrastructure elsewhere as well.

FRA says drivers need to follow simple rules, which will not only benefit them but the nation.
