Plastic pollution and dealing with waste is a global issue.

It’s a growing concern in the Pacific given that around 8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in our oceans annually causing an estimated $27billion worth of ecosystem damage.

UN Climate Champion and Founder of Ocean Recovery Alliance Douglas Woodring says the Pacific Plasticity forum is about implementing practical solutions that work to curb our plastic and waste pollution issues.

“The reason for the event, it’s about finding solutions for second life plastics, that means plastic that when your done using it, it becomes waste, how to make that not become waste anymore.”

Delegates from around the world are attending the conference to learn some of the examples making waves in other countries.

One example was the use of dirty plastic being used to make concrete in Costa Rica that is working to clean up their plastic pollution while contributing to the construction sector in a more sustainable way.
