National budget is like a campaign budget: Gavoka

July 9, 2018 7:00 pm

The 2018/2019 national budget has been labelled as a campaign budget for the upcoming general election by Opposition MP Villiame Gavoka.

While responding to the national budget, Gavoka claims the incentives and initiatives introduced are designed to win votes.

He believes Fijians are having a difficult time under the FijiFirst government and a high percentage of people want reduction of VAT on food items.

“Fiji has never been prosperous, look at the faces of all those people when they get interviewed by the media foremost in their comment is poverty and how hard their life is.”

Meanwhile, Gavoka says the Opposition is pleased with the sugar cane stabilization price of $85 per ton.

However, he claims if the Social Democratic Liberal Party were to form Government in the next elections then they would look at other ways to recover the FSC assets.
