The Moana Blue Pavilion has been home to ideas that shaped most conversations during the COP25 Climate Change conference in Madrid, Spain.

Speaking at the closing of the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the pavilion enabled the Pacific family to stand together, hear stories of hope, innovation and talk about accessible and affordable international climate finance while sharing bowls of kava.

Bainimarama says it was an honor to unite as a Pacific family and push the rest of the world to create a channel in the UNFCCC process to recognize the climate crisis is an oceans crisis.

“Over the past seven days, it’s often felt as if I’m traversing the world just in navigating these halls and pavilions. But in all I’ve seen, the energy and the ambition of this Moana Pavilion have been unmatched. As we’ve proved at so many COPs before, our pavilion is never defined by which country or, indeed, which hemisphere it sits.”

Bainimarama says the Pacific will continue to unite and fight as climate change effects are an ever-growing issue.

He adds the Pacific Island leaders will now shift their focus to COP26 which will be held in England with more expectations for climate action from major carbon emitters.

Meanwhile, the COP26 will be held in Glasgow, England in November next year.
