The Women Ministry yesterday presented five sewing machines to Kaba Women’s Group from Tailevu and Dilkusha Girls Home in Nausori.

This assistance request had been made directly to the Minister’s office early this month.

Minister Rosy Akbar says this assistance aims to support the skills development and income generating for women and young girls.

Akbar says such opportunities are also open to individual women, particularly those who come from underprivileged families.

“These machines will be used to produce quality garments dress wear, men’s wear, children’s clothes and of course household items for the many market opportunities that exists within your communities and the markets that we are trying to open for the Fijian women.”

Since 2009, the Ministry has distributed 3077 sewing machines to 1709 communities and 25 individuals.
