A 24-year-old man who is alleged to have assaulted his wife and baby in Tavua over the weekend has been charged.

The accused is facing one count of assault.

He was produced at the Tavua Magistrates Court and has been remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre.

The case will be recalled in the next two weeks.

Meanwhile the investigation into the alleged assault on the one-year-old baby continues.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says investigators are awaiting the medical report.

The victim remains admitted in critical condition.
