LTA and Police restrategise their traffic operations

September 19, 2018 6:06 pm

The Land Transport Authority and the Police Force are restrategising their traffic operations as it has been established that drivers are now outsmarting enforcement officers.

The two enforcement agencies made this decision following an increase in fatal motor vehicle accidents recently.

This month alone five lives have been lost on our roads.

LTA board chair, Vijay Maharaj says they have joined hands with the Force to identify hot-spots where most of the road accidents occur.

“I must tell you a lot of places are now becoming hot-spot because the driver attitude has been a concern. No matter how much you tell them, no matter how much advertisement you put out in the press or on TV, they continue to misbehave – which is a concern.”

Apart from speeding, drunk driving is also one of the main reasons behind fatal accidents.

The road death toll currently stands at 52 compared to 47 for the same period last year.
