The Fiji Taxi Association is concerned with the lift of taxi permit freeze early this year.
Fiji Taxi Association General Secretary Rishi Ram says this is a vital issue that needs addressing as there are many taxis on the roads.
He says there are three hundred and ninety taxis in Lautoka and under the new system, more permits will be issued.
“At the moment we are having a dialogue with our committee members and to discuss how we can tackle this problem but it’s too premature at the moment for me to make any comments on how to deal with this issue.”
However, the Land Transport Authority says they’re considering giving drivers that were employed by taxi owners an opportunity to start their own business.
