FRA aware of blind spot at a Namaka junction

January 19, 2018 12:20 am

The Fiji Roads Authority is aware of the concerns raised by drivers in Nadi, in relation to a particular junction in Namaka.

Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore, says the junction near the BSP Bank in Namaka, is on the priority list for them as it’s currently a blind spot for drivers that turn right to head towards the Votualevu roundabout.

“What we planning is to install traffic lights they will also act as pedestrian crossing as well and it will control the traffic as well and yes we are aware of that issue and a plan has been formulated now and I need to go back to my design team in the head office and work out when exactly we can do that but we are treating it as a priority.”

Moore adds installing traffic lights on this junction may take a while.

“We need to bring in the equipment unfortunately none of the equipment we need for the traffic signals are made in Fiji so we will import it. It is a critical issue what I’m looking at now is if can divert it to a less critical but the problem with that is it’s an offset junction and the traffic lights needed for an offset junction is different to those for a regular junction.”

The FRA is also pleading to drivers to be more careful and alert when making turns on this particular junction.
