Police with the help of villagers in Bukuya in the Western Division have arrested four people including two prison escapees.

Two of the four were men who had escaped from the Natabua Corrections Centre yesterday morning, while the other two who are women, are believed to be their accomplices in a robbery in Navutu before stealing a vehicle from Field 40, Lautoka.

Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, ACP Henry Brown says once the report was received a combined team of officers from the Nadi and Lautoka Police Stations pursued the suspects who headed towards the Nausori Highlands.

It was during the chase that officers made a call to members of Bukuya village and requested them to erect a road block which was done so immediately.

The two women were arrested a few meters away from the village where they were alleged to have been dropped, while the two men were arrested at the road block.

Brown says as earlier indicated Police have been working hard in trying to improve the response time for serious cases such as robberies and thefts of motor vehicle.

Quick response by the team of officers resulted in the vehicle being located, upon which the chase ensued.
