Father jailed for raping daughter

A father who raped his biological daughter over a two month period last year in Lautoka has been sentenced to 13 years 9 months and 15 days imprisonment by the Suva High court.

The man was convicted of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.

The father of six committed the offence between 27th April to 20th May last year when the victim’s mother was away at work.

The victim was 14-years-old at the time of the incident.

The court heard that on 20th May, he raped his daughter early in the morning.

His other children started calling the victim from outside the bedroom door, however, the man removed the louver blades of the bedroom window and escaped.

The victim’s maternal grandmother saw the accused fixing the louver blades around 7am and was only wearing a sarong.

She grew suspicious and confronted the victim who told her about the incident.

The maternal grandmother informed the victim’s mother about the incident and the matter was reported to police.

The man has to serve 12 years behind bars before being eligible for parole.
A domestic violence restraining order has been issued against him.
