Pope Francis, whose message was read in Madrid, says people need not place the burden on the next generation to take on the problems caused by the previous ones.

As faith-based institutions from around the world gathered at COP 25 in Spain last night, they all fear that we are not doing enough to protect our future generations from climate change.

Pope Francis, whose message was read in Madrid, says people need not place the burden on the next generation to take on the problems caused by the previous ones.

He further goes on to say that with the 2015 Paris Agreement in place, it demonstrates how far words are from concrete actions.

The Pope adds, after four years, studies show that the current commitments made by States to mitigate and adapt to climate change are far from those actually needed to achieve the goals set by the Paris Agreement.

Reverend Glen Rernell Executive Secretary of Native American and Indigenous Ministries had one message in Madrid last night.

“We need to work to protect the rights of our young people, the rights for our children and even for those who have yet to be born to have a safe environment.”

The COP 25 meetings continue tonight in Madrid.
