Former Politician and career Academic, Dr. Ganesh Chand is the new Vice Chancellor for the Solomon Islands National University.

During his official endorsement at the Kukum Campus in Honiara, Dr. Chand described SINU as a ship, noting that a ship must remain afloat to reach its destination if everyone works together.

He adds that if the crews are fighting amongst themselves, the Captain, the passengers are not happy then the ship is doomed. His wish he says is to put SINU on the Pacific Map and the World Map of Universities.

Dr. Chand is a founder of the University of Fiji and was involved in the establishment of the Fiji National University.

He has also served five years as the VC for FNU.

More recently he was plagued with legal battles and charged with one count of abuse of office by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

However, the case was discharged in November last year after FICAC filed for a discontinuation.

It was alleged that Chand between 14th November 2012 and 4th July 2013 whilst being employed as the Vice Chancellor of the Fiji National University, approved payments amounting to $213,905.05 for overseas medical treatment for the then Chairman of FNU, Filipe Bole from the university’s funds.
