Earthquake jolts Yasawa Islands

Guests and staff at the Turtle Island Resort in Nacula Yasawa were jolted awake by an earthquake early this morning.

Speaking to FBC News from the Resort, Arthur Sladden – the Supervisor for the Activities Department says the tremor was short and there was no danger to anyone.

“Around about 5.30 to 6am we all felt the earthquake. It took two minutes and all the beds and chairs were shaking. Our guests also felt it.”

There were also reports of tremors being felt in Ba and Deuba.

The Mineral Resources Department confirms the earthquake occurred at 06:21 this morning, 14.25km North West of Nacula Village, Yasawa.

It’s been classified a moderate earthquake at the depth of 27.8km.
