The electronic ticketing system will be made compulsory from October 1st this year.
E-ticketing initially starts from first of August and for sixty days both e-ticketing and cash system will be allowed, but from first October, everyone will be using e-ticketing.
Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says e -ticketing has been introduced as one of the means to prevent revenue leakage in the bus industry.
“The bus companies have confirmed that e-ticketing will virtually eliminate the pilfering of revenue by the employees. This means the revenue for bus companies will now increase by at least 33 percent. The e-ticketing system will also provide live data in terms of carriage passengers, embarkation, time and date of certain transactions and other analytical data which will assist in future development planning of a particular township of city in particular census.”
There are also plans to introduce e-ticketing system for taxis, mini buses carriers and marine transportation in the near future.
