A 54-year-old grandfather from Tailevu has pleaded guilty to a count of rape but pleaded not guilty to a count of sexual assault.

It is alleged that the farmer raped and sexually assaulted his 9-year-old grand-daughter on January 7th this year.

However, according to his lawyer, the accused could not understand his second charge, therefore, pleaded not guilty.

The Suva High Court has asked the accused person’s lawyer to explain his charge in a way that he is able to understand before the next court date.

The case has been adjourned to the 8th of July.
