A 26-year-old man who allegedly raped a 19-year-old student on Monday morning will appear in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The man is charged with one count of rape, allegedly committing the offence while the victim was gardening.

Police say the victim managed to free herself after she got hold of a stick and knocked the suspect unconscious.

The suspect remains in police custody.
