A man alleged to have raped his nephew has claimed he was assaulted yesterday by a corrections officer at the Suva Remand Center.

The 29-year-old man alleges he was beaten with a hose pipe on his back several times by the officer.

Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza says if the allegations are true then it is a serious issue which needs to be dealt with.

Justice Hamza instructed him to be escorted to the Totogo Police Station to lodge a complaint and a medical report to be produced.

The defense counsel requested for the accused to be kept at the Totogo Police Station, however, the Judge refused his submission.

The accused this week had informed court that he was also earlier assaulted by another corrections officer.

The accused is charged with three counts of rape.

The alleged incidents happened between January 1st to April 17th 2014 in Colo-i-Suva.

The case has been adjourned to Monday for summing up.
