Canada commends Fiji on leadership on ocean pollution

The Canadian Government commended Fiji at the G7 Environment Minister’s meeting in France.

This is after Fiji’s leadership role in advocating and working towards a cleaner ocean and eradicating plastic ocean pollution.

This commendation was made by Canada’s Minister for Environment Catherine McKenna to her Fijian counterpart, Dr Mahendra Reddy, on the margins yesterday of the G7 Environment Ministers meeting.

During their talks, Minister McKenna congratulated Fiji for joining the marine plastic litter initiative which was established by Canada in 2918.

In her remarks, she added that Fiji’s leadership in both the regional and international fora was commendable.

In their discussions, Minister Reddy also commended Canada’s own leadership not just in addressing ocean pollution but also for their active support towards climate-vulnerable nations.

Minister Reddy and Minister McKenna also looked at identifying various areas of cooperation in the oceans and climate development sectors that can be explored between the two countries
