25-year-old man assaults two Police officers in court

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man charged with one count of aggravated robbery attacked two police officers in the Suva High court today.

The incident happened when escorting police officers tried to take Demesi Atulaga out of the court room after his case was heard.

However, he didn’t want to leave the court room and started throwing punches at the two officers.

Atulaga was then arrested and taken to the cell block.

He’s alleged to have robbed a man of cash and assorted items valued at more than $4000.

Atulaga is already facing several counts of serious assaults on police officers.

Last year, he fronted court charged with two counts of serious assault, two counts of damaging property and one count of resisting arrest.

The incident is alleged to have happened on December 22nd, 2016.

He’s alleged to have thrown a stone at a police vehicle and also assaulted Detective Sergeant Josua Daveta.

He is also alleged to have damaged a wrist watch belonging to Police Constable Manasa Bainimarama.

The court heard that he also bit the right index finger of Special Constable Saimoni Ratu.
